The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations:
Part 2 "Passionate Worship"

This Sunday, we will delve into the second practice, Passionate Worship. See what Bishop Schnase says about it:

Understanding the meaning of worship requires looking beyond what people do to see with the eyes of faith what God does. God uses worship to transform lives, heal wounded souls, renew hope, shape decisions, provoke change, inspire compassion, and bind people to one another. We don’t attend worship to squeeze God into our lives; we seek to meld our lives into God’s. It’s a time to think less about ourselves and more about faith, less about our personal agendas and more about God’s will. We encounter a fresh vision of God’s reality in Christ so that God’s Spirit can reshape our lives and form us into the body of Christ.

So passionate worship is about what God does through the act of worship rather than being about a style or setting where worship occurs. The reason our worship should reflect our passion is because we are passionate about God and what God wants of us.

For the next week, we will think about how we worship on Sunday morning. The sermon will focus on the two most worshipful books in the Bible: Psalms and Revelation! Psalms are full of lyrics that expound on the greatness of God, which is no surprise. Everyone focuses on Revelation's gloom, doom, and strange imagery, but most of the last book in the Bible is worship. Many hymns and contemporary songs use Revelation as inspiration, see "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "I Can Only Imagine." Then, on Wednesday, we will discuss what Passionate Worship looks like or can look like at Glencoe.

Let There Be Light!

"Arise, shine, for your light has come!" Isaiah 60:1

Thanks to Randall, Charlie, and Robin who worked tirelessly to light up our church sign and other upgrades! This Sunday, we will see TWO projected image up front, a video monitor for the choir, a camera to record and to broadcast worship services, and wireless Internet access throughout the church!
Though this has been on the "to do" list for months, it is an example of "radical hospitality." People will be able see what's happening at church day AND night. Teachers can use the Internet to enhance their Sunday School lessons. People will be able to see and hear the worship service from the nursery, fellowship hall, or anywhere! Finally, everyone will be able the lyrics to songs, announcements, and sermon illustrations.
So a big thank you to the installers, and to Keith Perri for his vision and technological expertise.
